The Glasgow Film Festival is set to open next month with the UK premiere of Everybody To Kenmure Street. This documentary centers on the events of May 13, 2021, when hundreds of Glasgow residents in Pollokshields rallied on Kenmure Street. Their collective action successfully prevented immigration officers from taking away two Sikh men, who were later released after protesters surrounded the vehicle for several hours.
Directed by Bafta-winning filmmaker Felipe Bustos Sierra, the film incorporates crowd-sourced footage from the day, alongside archive film and specially designed scenes. Actors portray individuals who wished to remain anonymous, relaying their testimonies. The gala UK premiere is scheduled for February 25th at the Glasgow Film Theatre, marking the launch of the festival's 22nd edition.
Bustos Sierra expressed his excitement for the film's debut to a hometown audience, calling it a "snapshot of a day, of a neighbourhood." Executive produced by Emma Thompson, the film is slated for a full cinema release in March. The festival's closing film will be California Schemin', directed by James McAvoy, on March 8th.
