Giant Giraffe Sculpture Needs Crane to Finish
9 Mar
Summary
- A 13m tall giraffe sculpture is under construction.
- It is made from 10,000 unwanted auto parts.
- A crane is needed to help complete the large sculpture.

The British Ironworks Centre in Shropshire is currently assembling its largest sculpture to date: a 13m (43ft) tall giraffe made entirely from recycled materials. This immense structure is being fashioned from approximately 10,000 discarded auto parts, which will be painted to resemble classic giraffe markings.
The centre, renowned for its touring Knife Angel sculpture, faces a significant hurdle in completing the giraffe. They have issued an appeal to local businesses for the use of a crane, essential for hoisting and fitting the final pieces of the towering artwork.
Upon completion, this recycled giraffe will dwarf the world's tallest living giraffe, Forest, who resides at Australia Zoo and stands over 5m (16ft) tall. The centre's founder, Clive Knowles, aims for the sculpture to be recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest recycled artwork in the UK. The current tallest giraffe sculpture in the UK stands at a modest 2.4m (7.9ft) in Edinburgh Zoo.
