- Showrunners are exploring Pete's existential disappearance.
The fifth season of the CBS comedy Ghosts concluded on May 21, 2026, leaving viewers with a significant cliffhanger involving the character Pete.
The season finale saw Sam and Jay attempting to save Woodstone Mansion from a large corporation's development plans. Their efforts led Jay, Pete, and Kyle on a journey to London to find historical proof for the property, aiming to secure its landmark status.
During this expedition, they succeeded in uncovering evidence of a notable past event involving Nancy, who was once a princess. However, Pete began to fade, transforming into just a head before disappearing entirely. This marks the first time one of the main eight ghosts has faced such a drastic fate.
Showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman have acknowledged the dramatic turn, with Port stating they are exploring the "existential question" of Pete's disappearance. Wiseman added that the stakes feel real and that they will reveal Pete's whereabouts and condition upon the show's return. The series was renewed for a sixth season in February 2025 and will feature two one-hour specials dealing with this cliffhanger.
