Ghostbusters Star Confirms Iconic Cameo in Casper

In a recent interview, Dan Aykroyd, the Emmy-winning co-creator of the Ghostbusters franchise, has confirmed that his character Dr. Ray Stantz's cameo appearance in the 1995 film Casper is officially part of the Ghostbusters canon. Aykroyd, who plays the paranormal expert Dr. Stantz in the Ghostbusters movies, stated that the cameo was a "beautiful nod" to the iconic franchise.

In the Brad Silberling-directed Casper, the titular friendly ghost's Maine estate is inherited by the wealthy heiress Carrigan, who hires a series of specialists to cleanse the house of spirits. One of these contractors is Dr. Stantz, who is seen running out the front door in his iconic khaki jumpsuit, referencing the Ghostbusters' theme song.

Aykroyd explained that the cameo was included in the Ghostbusters canon due to the fact that director Steven Spielberg had specifically requested Aykroyd's involvement in the film. This, according to Aykroyd, solidifies the cameo as an official part of the 40-year Ghostbusters legacy.
