The GFT is marking its 87th anniversary since opening as the Cosmo and its 52nd anniversary as the GFT with a month-long celebration. The cinema is showcasing "big screen classics" in stunning 35mm and 70mm formats, offering a unique cinematic experience.
Highlights of the film season include a newly restored 70mm print of John Ford's The Searchers, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, and the Oscar-winning The English Patient on 35mm. A diverse selection of other cinematic gems, such as Dr Zhivago, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Mulholland Drive, will also be screened.
The GFT is also paying tribute to actress Diane Keaton with a special season featuring films like The Godfather and Annie Hall. Additionally, the venue will host four documentaries for the Doc'n Roll Film Festival, focusing on music subcultures and including filmmaker Q&As.
Further programming includes screenings of cult classics celebrating their 40th anniversary, such as Highlander and Top Gun, newly restored in 4K. The GFT continues its commitment to accessibility with events like Access Film Club, Visible Cinema for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, and Movie Memories for those living with dementia, all designed to offer inclusive and relaxed cinematic experiences.
