Gene Hackman's Santa Fe Home Sells Fast
28 Jan
Summary
- Gene Hackman's Santa Fe estate sold quickly.
- The property was listed for $6.25 million.
- The couple died in the home in January 2025.

The Santa Fe compound formerly owned by actor Gene Hackman has been sold, with an offer accepted just 11 days after being listed for $6.25 million. The brokerage Sotheby's International Realty has marked the New Mexico property as 'pending' while final sale steps are completed.
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were discovered deceased in their Hyde Park home on February 26, 2025, having passed away on January 26, 2025. Their deaths were attributed to natural causes: Hackman died from heart disease and Alzheimer's complications, while Arakawa succumbed to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
Despite the home's association with the couple's deaths, experts suggested its celebrity link, desirable location within a gated community offering Rocky Mountain views, and the property's features would drive interest and potentially exceed the listing price. The residence, extensively remodeled in 1990, was noted to be cluttered and had signs of rodent activity in outbuildings, though the interior was reportedly clean.
