Gaumont Preps Two Major French Films for Berlin Market

Gaumont is set to present two major films at the European Film Market in Berlin. Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano's coming-of-age film, 'Just an Illusion,' and Xavier Giannoli's €30 million WWII-drama, 'Rays and Shadows,' have already secured numerous pre-sales.

'Rays and Shadows' is set in Paris during the 1940s, examining the moral complexities of French high society during the Occupation. The film stars Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin as journalist Jean Luchaire, who becomes a powerful press baron under Nazi protection. The film has pre-sold to territories including Australia, Spain, and Italy.

'Just an Illusion' follows Vincent, a 13-year-old boy navigating adolescence in 1985 suburban Paris, exploring themes of identity and first crushes. Directors Nakache and Toledano, known for 'The Intouchables,' have assembled a cast including Camille Cottin and Louis Garrel. This film also boasts significant pre-sales across Europe and Canada.
