In the past 24 months, Gaumont USA has been actively expanding its presence in Latin American and Spanish markets. The company, which celebrates its 130th anniversary this year, has announced a series of new projects and partnerships across Mexico, Brazil, and Spain.
One key deal sees Gaumont USA teaming up with Kate del Castillo's L.A.-based production company Cholowood to develop the action thriller "Point Blank." The project, written by Alexandro Aldrete and to be directed by Salvador Espinosa, will star del Castillo. Gaumont USA is also working with del Castillo on another title, "La Chef," a buddy comedy directed by Noé Santillán-López.
Expanding further into the Mexican market, Gaumont USA has tapped "How to Get Away With Murder" star Karla Souza to headline the buddy comedy "Las Wannabes," written by María Hinojos. The company is also co-producing a feel-good comedy series called "Rumba Therapy" with a streaming service.
Beyond Mexico, Gaumont USA is making inroads in Brazil, co-producing the true-crime series "Me Engana Que Eu Gosto" with top Brazilian VOD player Globoplay. The series chronicles the rise and fall of Brazil's high-fashion icon Eliana Tranchesi. The company is also developing another true-crime series with HBO Max.
In Spain, Gaumont is working on the buddy comedy "Brats" and adapting the Argentinian novel "Instructions on How to Rob a Supermarket" with writers Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat, who recently found success with the Spanish film "Official Competition."
These new projects build on Gaumont USA's earlier successes, including the acclaimed "Narcos" series and the upcoming Netflix release "Futuro Desierto." As the company continues to expand its reach, it remains focused on partnering with top talent and adapting existing IP to cater to local audiences across Latin America and Spain.
