Oscar-nominated actress Karla Sofía Gascón and "Money Heist" star Itziar Ituño are set to lead the cast of the forthcoming Spanish television series "When Devils Rule" ("Los demones mandan"). The show, currently in development as a six-part series, will be presented at Tallinn's TV Beats Co-Financing Market. It aims to explore themes of good versus evil in a contemporary setting.
"When Devils Rule" is described as a thriller infused with supernatural, fantasy, folklore, and satire elements. The narrative focuses on demons who operate discreetly within society, influencing powerful individuals and contributing to global chaos. The series draws inspiration from Manuel Mujica Lainez's novel "The Journey of the Seven Demons," adapting its core ideas of evil, temptation, and power for a modern audience.
The series centers on four heroines from ordinary, working-class backgrounds whose jobs are crucial to societal functions. Gascón will portray Manuela, a teacher at an elite school, while Ituño takes on the role of Evita, the prime minister's personal secretary in the show's fictional country. These women, connected through a community center, will endeavor to expose and confront the hidden demons. Production costs are expected to be significantly supported by Spain's Basque region tax incentive.
