Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is a cult-favorite British mockumentary renowned for its sharp satire of self-important horror authors. The series cleverly spoofs the genre through a fictional, inept television show about a hospital supposedly built over Hell's gates.
Presented as a forgotten, low-budget sci-fi horror production, the show stars creator Matthew Holness as the egotistical author Garth Marenghi. Holness also portrays his character, Dr. Rick Dagless, M.D., within the fictional series. Richard Ayoade appears as publisher Dean Learner, with Matt Berry as Dr. Lucien Sanchez and Alice Lowe as psychic Dr. Liz Asher.
