The 12-day Ganeshotsav festival concluded on Friday with vibrant visarjan ceremonies, culminating in the immersion of numerous idols. Over 199,000 idols, encompassing both household and public installations, were respectfully immersed, with the Lalbaugcha Raja being among the last. The city saw extensive civic and traffic arrangements ensuring smooth processions and immersions across various locations.
This year's Ganeshotsav highlighted diverse themes chosen by various mandals. The Pangeri Chawl mandal presented a tableau on holistic education, winning first prize, while the Sakinabai Chawl mandal focused on women's safety through a miniature idol depicting divine protection. These displays underscored a commitment to addressing social issues during the festivities.
Innovative immersion methods were also observed, including the use of a barge for the Mumbaicha Raja idol, a novel approach for the city. Meanwhile, in Navi Mumbai, the Navi Mumbaicha Raja's immersion was marked by a disciplined ceremony without loud music, emphasizing traditional instruments and flower showers. Newspaper vendors also used their mandals to convey messages about the importance of print media in the digital age.
