- The project was conceived a decade ago by the filmmakers.

The film Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, by David Wain and Ken Marino of The State fame, is set to release on July 10. This comedic venture began as a screenplay idea a decade ago.
The movie is described as a modern, distorted retelling of The Wizard of Oz. Zoey Deutch leads the cast as Gail Daughtry, with Jon Hamm and Jennifer Aniston also starring. The filmmakers developed the script over seven days, a process they've refined over years of collaboration.
Shooting the film in Los Angeles presented financial challenges, but a last-minute tax credit allowed production to remain in the city. Despite a tight 21-day schedule, including three days for Jon Hamm's scenes, the crew utilized creative shortcuts, even using iPhones for some shots.
Wain and Marino also celebrate the 25th anniversary of their film Wet Hot American Summer with a music tour. They also hinted at potential future projects with The State group.
