Ameesha Patel shared her reflections on the enduring iconic status of the Gadar film franchise, which is set to mark the 25th anniversary of its first installment, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, on June 15, 2026. She stated that the combined viewership, or footfalls, for Gadar 1 and the recently released Gadar 2 have surpassed those of the Dhurandhar film series and its sequel.
Patel described the original Gadar: Ek Prem Katha as a "monstrous hit," noting its unprecedented 100% opening day across India. She recalled that the film's immense success was achieved while she was juggling multiple film projects, making it difficult to fully grasp the magnitude of its impact at the time.
Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, follows the journey of a Sikh truck driver, Tara Singh, who embarks on a mission to Pakistan to reunite with his separated family. The sequel, Gadar 2, continues this narrative with Tara Singh traveling to Pakistan once more, this time to rescue his captive adult son.
