Gabourey Sidibe Directs Mary J. Blige Lifetime Film

Gabourey Sidibe is set to make her television directorial debut with the upcoming Lifetime film, "Mary J. Blige Presents Be Happy." The movie stars Tisha Campbell, Mekhi Phifer, and Russell Hornsby and is scheduled to premiere on February 7. This project also highlights Mary J. Blige's extended partnership with Lifetime, as she has signed a new three-picture deal.

The film centers on Val, a 50-year-old mother played by Tisha Campbell, who navigates empty-nest syndrome and a strained marriage. Her journey to support her daughter in New Orleans leads her to connect with a photographer, Peter Mosley, portrayed by Mekhi Phifer, who helps her rediscover her artistic side. Russell Hornsby plays Val's husband, Ross.

This new endeavor builds upon Mary J. Blige's successful history with Lifetime, which includes three previous films inspired by her music that garnered significant viewership. Blige is executive producing the film through her Blue Butterfly productions banner, further solidifying her commitment to impactful storytelling on the network.
