Gabonese fashion designer Chouchou Lazare recently received an achievement award at the Fashion Annual Show in Paris, celebrating his distinctive use of raffia. Lazare transforms this natural palm leaf fiber, historically significant in Gabon, into internationally recognized fashion pieces.

Self-taught and inspired by his mother and grandmother, Lazare began sewing at age nine. He now meticulously incorporates undyed raffia into his collections, highlighting its cultural and spiritual importance in Gabon, where it features in traditional ceremonies.
