Futala Fountain Reimagined, Not Just Repaired

The Futala Musical Fountain in Nagpur is slated for completion by November, marking its reopening after a two-year hiatus. The restoration project, led by an international team, goes beyond simple repairs to offer a completely reimagined experience. This includes new animations depicting Nagpur's history and advanced projection mapping techniques.

Technical director Alphonse Roy highlighted the use of multiple projection methods for an immersive audio-visual display. Project head Basile de Schrynmakers explained that extended closures led to extensive damage, necessitating a complete overhaul of the electrical and communication systems.

To ensure longevity, the team consulted IIT Bombay. Stronger, three-layer insulated cables, spanning 80km to 100km, were installed to connect various equipment. Meticulous sealing of every joint was crucial to prevent water ingress, adding to the project's execution time but ensuring a robust system.
