24 Feb
Summary
- Fulton Mackay and Sheila Manahan married in 1961.
- The couple had no children during their marriage.
- Both actors died young from cancer, less than a year apart.

Fulton Mackay, fondly remembered as the gruff officer Mr. Mackay from the beloved British sitcom Porridge, led a largely private life with his wife, Sheila Manahan. The couple, both actors, married in 1961 and remained united for 26 years until Mackay's passing. Their union, though private, was characterized by warmth; actor Brian Cox recalled them as "an incredible welcoming, inclusive couple."
Manahan, who began her screen career in 1948, stepped back from acting following her marriage to Mackay, though she occasionally appeared in theatre. They did not have children during their marriage. Sadly, both succumbed to cancer: Mackay died of stomach cancer in 1987, and Manahan passed from colon cancer less than a year later in March 1988.
