Summer Circle Theatre, a long-standing tradition in mid-Michigan, launches its 64th season with free performances on the Michigan State University campus throughout June. The professional theater's courtyard stage between the MSU Auditorium and Kresge Art Building will host three distinct productions on Thursdays through Sundays. Audiences are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs, with concessions available. In case of rain, performances will relocate to the MSU Auditorium.
The season's offerings include an adaptation of a children's book, a play set in Regency England, and a honky-tonk musical. Accompanying the mainstage shows are additional events: a free kids camp from June 15-19, a "Summer Circle Sings Cabaret" on select dates, and "After School Special Improv" sessions.
Meanwhile, other local theater companies are also concluding their seasons. Ixion Theatre presents "Defiance: A Collection of Short Plays" from May 29-31 and June 5-7 at Sycamore Creek Stage One. Riverwalk Theatre travels to the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with their production of "Seussical" from June 4-7 and June 11-14.
Sistrum is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special concert, "We are Timeless," on June 5 and 6 at DeWitt High School, featuring four decades of directors. This concert marks a significant moment as Meghan Eldred-Woolsey leads her final performance with the choir.
