A free combat demo for Free Stars: Children of Infinity, the official sequel to the beloved game The Ur-Quan Masters, has been released after five years of development. This demo mirrors the "melee mode" of the original, allowing players to create fleets from a roster of 38 ships for head-to-head arcade combat.
The demo is accessible on Steam and GOG, supporting Windows, Mac, and Linux. While console versions are planned, they are not yet available. The game is a space adventure RPG, continuing the legacy of titles like Starflight.
Players can engage in battles using ships with unique characteristics, including returning vessels from The Ur-Quan Masters, new designs, and ships created by Kickstarter backers. While classic ships have been recreated, modern engine improvements allow for more natural ship maneuvering.
The full game has undergone a lengthy development process with significant volunteer contributions, including extensive NPC dialogue and story elements. The end of development is now in sight, with the release of this demo offering a taste of the anticipated seamless continuation of the player's memory of UQM.
