Cinematic treats are coming to Britain as the Escapes initiative presents free screenings of the BAFTA-nominated film 'Wasteman'. Audiences can claim complimentary tickets for this anticipated movie on February 16-17, just before its official release on February 20.
The film, directed by Cal McMau, who earned the best debut director award at the 2025 British Independent Film Awards, delves into the complexities of the nation's prison system. It follows a prisoner's struggle to connect with his son while navigating a dangerous prison environment.
Notable performances are expected from Jonsson, a recipient of last year's BAFTA Rising Star Award, and Blyth, known for roles in 'The Hunger Games' prequel and Netflix's 'People We Meet on Vacation'. The cast also includes Rivals frontman Alex Hassell and R&B artist Ray BLK.
This nationwide initiative, a collaboration between the BFI and National Lottery funding, seeks to invigorate independent cinemas and attract new audiences. Ben Luxford, director of U.K.-wide audiences at the BFI, emphasized the goal of making cinema more accessible and supporting local venues across all communities in the U.K.
