Mary Austin, Freddie Mercury's former fiancée, inherited the bulk of the Queen frontman's estate, including his opulent Kensington mansion and all his possessions, after his passing in 1991. Their romantic relationship concluded in 1976, but their profound friendship endured until Mercury's death from AIDS-related complications.

Austin lived in Mercury's mansion, Garden Lodge, for over thirty years, cherishing the memories within its walls. In February 2024, she put the substantial property on the market, seeking offers exceeding 30 million pounds. The mansion, largely preserved as Mercury left it, was described by Austin as a "glorious memory box."

Additionally, in 2023, Austin auctioned approximately 1,400 of Mercury's personal items through Sotheby's, including a piano and a distinctive mustache comb. She stated her hope that the sale would allow the world to celebrate Mercury's unique spirit. Austin has since lived a private life, raising two sons and preparing to release a book of her memories with the singer.
