A surprising musical collaboration between Mabe Fratti and Bill Orcutt has culminated in a new album. Fratti, who had admired Orcutt's work since his 2017 album, found herself unexpectedly chatting with him online about working together. This led to a creative exchange, initiated by guitar solos sent from Orcutt to Fratti.
Their remote collaboration lasted nearly a year, with Fratti and her Titanic bandmate I. La Catolica working in Mexico City. They focused on deciphering Orcutt's musical ideas and crafting melodies that complemented his guitar work. Fratti noted a deliberate effort to leave space in the arrangements, though she eventually embraced extensive vocal harmonization on one track.
Orcutt described the process as amazing, highlighting Fratti's creativity, openness, and intelligence. He initiated the contact after Fratti had mentioned his name among her favorite albums a couple of years prior. Both artists are known for their prolific output; Fratti released 'Hagen' with Titanic recently, and Orcutt put out 'Music in Continuous Motion'.
