Summary
- The 1939 Sturges House is LA's only Usonian-style building.
- The home is reportedly left to rot, attracting wild animals.
- It's now owned by a non-profit organization after multiple owners.

The historic 1939 Sturges House, the only Usonian-style building by Frank Lloyd Wright in Los Angeles, is in a state of severe disrepair. Located in Brentwood Heights, the 1,200-square-foot home is reportedly suffering from 'demolition by neglect,' with visible decay of its original redwood structure and warping of its distinctive carport.
Neighbors have raised alarms about the worsening condition of the architectural gem, noting observations of wild animals within the vacant property. The Los Angeles Conservancy has highlighted the decay, particularly the rotting pillars and warped carport span, as a serious concern for the property's integrity.
Commissioned by George and Selma Sturges and completed in 1940, the house was inspired by a 1938 issue of 'Architectural Forum' dedicated to Wright's work. After several ownership changes, including by actors Jack Larson and director James Bridges, it is now owned by the All Right Now Foundation and is a designated Historic-Cultural Monument.
