28 Apr
Summary
- Frameline50 marks 50 years of LGBTQ+ film in San Francisco.
- Opening night features 'Lady Champagne,' a drag-themed comedy.
- Documentaries on Barbara Hammer and the 'Hunky Jesus' contest selected.

Frameline, San Francisco's premier LGBTQ+ film festival, is set to honor its 50th anniversary with a distinguished lineup from June 17 to June 27. The festival will launch with D'Arcy Drollinger's 'Lady Champagne' at the historic Castro Theatre on opening night. This "dragsploitation" comedy, filmed locally, follows an exotic dancer's quest for revenge.
Mid-festival, on June 25, Frameline50 will present Brydie O'Connor's documentary 'Barbara Forever,' a tribute to the influential lesbian filmmaker Barbara Hammer. This screening holds significance as Hammer herself was a past honoree and participant at the festival.
The celebration continues on June 26 with Jennifer M. Kroot's 'Hunky Jesus.' This film spotlights the unique Easter competition organized by San Francisco's Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, narrated by George Takei and featuring notable drag personalities.
Allegra Madsen, Frameline's executive director, emphasized the festival's commitment to showcasing local artists and the LGBTQ+ community's cultural contributions. A festival hub will operate at Hamburger Mary's from May 14 through June 14, with a brief reopening during the fest.
