Fox has ordered "Mammoth," its first live-action comedy in over two years, for the 2027-28 season. The series centers on Coach Tony Mammoth, a charismatic high school gym teacher whose life was put on ice in 1983 following a ski avalanche. He awakens forty years later to a world vastly different from the one he knew.
Still clinging to his 1980s sensibilities, including his signature mustache and Trans-AM, Mammoth returns to teaching. He quickly discovers that contemporary rules, relationships, and societal norms bear little resemblance to his past. The show explores his charmingly out-of-step attempts to navigate modern life.
This U.S. adaptation is based on the BBC Two comedy of the same name and is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios. The project reunites creators Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker, both acclaimed for their work on "Modern Family." The series is slated for the 2027-28 broadcast season.
"Mammoth" aims to deliver substantial laughs and relatable characters, even as Tony Mammoth grapples with a second chance at life. This acquisition aligns with Fox's strategy to own its content, with "Mammoth" fully produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and distributed globally by Fox Entertainment Global.
