Forgotten Mozart Sibling Shines in New Series 'Mozart Mozart'

In the upcoming series "Mozart Mozart," audiences will be introduced to the famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as well as his lesser-known sister, Maria Anna. The show, which is set to premiere in the near future, is produced by Story House Pictures in co-production with German broadcaster ARD, Austrian state TV ORF, and Dreaming Sheep Company, with Beta Film and Bavaria Media handling global distribution.

The series' creators, screenwriter Swantje Oppermann and showrunner Andreas Gutzeit, are excited to finally give Maria Anna the spotlight she deserves. As Gutzeit explains, "When you watch the very first scene, you understand who was the original child prodigy. She was just as mesmerizing to the audience - until she became a woman and her role in the society changed." The director, Clara von Arnim, adds that the focus on Maria Anna makes the series "in a way, timeless" and an important step in ensuring female artists from the past are no longer underestimated.

The series' cast includes rising stars Havana Joy, Eren M. Güvercin, Eidin Jalali, Verena Altenberger, and Sonja Weißer. The creators are confident that the show will appeal to young audiences by exploring what Mozart would sound like as a modern-day superstar, drawing inspiration from the likes of Britney Spears and David Bowie. As Gutzeit notes, "We convinced our partners we wanted to make this show also for young people - one that could bring them close to these characters."
