- Pieces by Cartier and other prestigious brands drove international bidding wars.
A remarkable jewellery collection, hidden away in an attic for decades in Worcestershire, has emerged to achieve an astonishing £506,750 at auction. The sum is more than three times the original pre-sale estimate of £150,000.
The 201 individual lots comprised the personal collection of a late grandmother from Malvern. Her family discovered the trove while clearing out her home's loft. Auctioneers managed the sale, which saw intense competition from international buyers bidding online and via telephone.
Among the prized items was a rare Belle Époque diamond and gemstone brooch from Cartier, dating to 1905. This exquisite piece alone fetched £48,000. Another highlight was an early 20th-century necklace with natural pearls and diamonds, which sold for £34,000 after laboratory tests confirmed the pearls' origin.
Specialists noted that the jewellery's high quality and excellent condition, preserved by decades of attic storage, contributed to the exceptional demand. This find underscores the enduring appeal of private estate collections with a documented history of ownership.
