Dark Sky Films has secured the North American distribution rights for "Blood Shine," the latest feature from filmmakers Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks. The film, described as a compelling mix of arthouse style and visceral folk horror, is slated for release later this year.
"Blood Shine" features Emily Bennett as Clara, a fervent believer who engages in solitary rituals, and David Call as Brighton West, a troubled horror filmmaker seeking solitude upstate. Their encounter leads Brighton into Clara's increasingly extreme spiritual world, where he becomes convinced her ceremonies will elevate him to godhood.
The movie boasts a strong supporting cast, including Brendan Sexton III, Larry Fessenden, and Toby Poser. The distinctive gore effects were handled by Brian Spears, known for his work on "Smile 2" and "American Horror Story."
