Marsden Silver Prize Band is facing significant challenges after a flood inundated their Marsden Musical Institute base. The disaster, triggered by a burst water pipe, occurred shortly after the band's festive break.
Band manager Kath Coton described the scene as catastrophic, with water pouring from ceilings and damaging the building's renowned sprung sprung floor. Precious sheet music, some a century old, was ruined, literally falling apart upon touch. The flood also impacted musical instruments and caused mould to spread.
Established in 1889, the band holds deep community ties, having persevered through World War Two. Neighbouring bands and community groups have offered support, assisting with instrument drying and rehearsal space.
