Three years after winning a prestigious award at the Berlinale, Flemish director Britt Raes is adapting her short film "Luce and the Rock" into a new 39-episode children's series. The series, which is set to premiere in 2026, is a co-production between Belgium's Thuristar and France's La Cabane and France Télévisions, with international distribution handled by Cake Distribution.
The series follows the curious 6-year-old Luce, who opens her bedroom window each morning to see what's happening in the magical Lovely Land. Luce shares her daily adventures with her best friend, a giant Rock, as they explore the unexpected, meet surprising creatures, and discover new perspectives. With its vibrant visuals and narrative creativity, each seven-minute episode offers young viewers a delightful new look at Luce's world.
Raes, who is co-directing the series with French animator Mathilde Prévost, says she and her team were still in love with the characters and story after the short film's festival run. The project secured funding from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund and other European sources, allowing production to begin in 2023 and continue through spring 2026.
