FKA Twigs is featured on the cover of ELLE UK's February issue, where she candidly discusses overcoming significant adversities in her life. She revealed a newfound ability to hold both joy and pain, stating, "I can hold my love of life and my artistry and the beauty of my life, and I can also hold the brutality and the sadness and the violence." This perspective shift comes after navigating difficult experiences, including a high-profile domestic abuse lawsuit with ex-partner Shia LaBeouf, which was settled nearly four years after it was filed in 2020.
The artist, who also promotes her new records Eusexua and Eusexua Afterglow, reflected on personal growth, noting she has learned to "speak up" for herself, contrasting it with being an "idiot" in her twenties. Twigs also shared her experiences growing up as a woman of color in a predominantly white area, highlighting the lack of language for what are now understood as micro-aggressions. She mentioned that even after settling the lawsuit, she "doesn't feel safe" and remains involved with organizations supporting survivors.
The lawsuit, filed in 2020, sought $10 million in damages for alleged sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. While LaBeouf denied many allegations, the case was resolved privately. Twigs' complaint detailed disturbing claims, including knowingly transmitting an STD and threats of physical harm. She emphasizes looking forward and moving on with her life, while continuing her advocacy for survivors.
