In October 2025, newly launched distribution company Obscured Releasing has acquired the North American rights to the documentary "Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter." The film explores the dramatic rise and fall of the 1990s fitness and nutrition powerhouse, Susan Powter, who became a household name with her bold message of health and wellness.
Powter burst onto the scene in the '90s with her signature bleached-blonde buzz cut and her "Stop the Insanity" mantra, conquering infomercials, becoming a New York Times bestselling author, and hosting her own talk show. However, she later dramatically walked away from Hollywood and into obscurity, with crippling lawsuits with her business partners leaving her bankrupt and living as a recluse below the poverty line in Las Vegas.
The documentary, directed by Zeberiah Newman, aims to uncover what led to Powter's dramatic downfall and whether her message is still as relevant and powerful today as it was in the early '90s. Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, who bears a striking resemblance to Powter, serves as an executive producer on the project, which is set to release theatrically in Los Angeles on November 19, 2025, with additional markets to follow.
