Firefly Takes Flight Again as Animated Series!
15 Mar
Summary
- Firefly is returning as an animated series, not a live-action revival.
- The new show will bridge the gap between the original series and Serenity.
- Original cast members have hinted at the new animated project.

The cult science fiction hit "Firefly" is making a comeback, re-imagined as an animated series. This news comes after star Nathan Fillion had been teasing a potential revival for the series, which originally aired for less than one season before being followed by the feature film "Serenity."
The animated show is set to take place chronologically between the events of the 2002 TV series and the 2005 movie. Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters are on board as showrunners, with ShadowMachine handling the animation production. Fillion's company, Collision33, is developing the project with 20th Television Animation.
Hints of this new project were shared by Fillion and several other original cast members, including Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Adam Baldwin, through cryptic social media videos. The original "Firefly" series, set in the year 2517, followed the crew of the spaceship Serenity through a future civil war and became a significant cult phenomenon despite its short initial run.
