A limited series released on Netflix on September 25, 2026, "The Final Problem" plunges viewers into a 1950s mystery. Set on the isolated island of Santa Agueda off Mallorca, Spain, a fierce storm traps thirteen tourists. Their confinement turns sinister when one guest, Elisa Mander, is found dead in what appears to be a suicide.
However, Benjamin Basil, a renowned actor who famously played Sherlock Holmes, suspects foul play. His investigative instincts are piqued when two more guests are murdered, complicating the unfolding drama and forcing him to unmask the killer.
Basil eventually recreates the first murder on a film set, revealing how Elisa Mander, who had assumed the identity of Adela Figueroa, staged her own death and committed the subsequent murders. Her motive stemmed from a past betrayal by Basil and a desire for revenge.
Elisa also murdered Dr. Seruya and Hans Ludwig Klemmer for reasons of self-preservation and revenge, respectively. Basil deduced Elisa's true identity by noticing her typist-like fingers and finding her RAF identity card.
In a surprising turn, Basil, recognizing his own past mistreatment of Elisa, ultimately allows her to escape, warning her against further violence. Both characters are depicted reading "A Scandal in Bohemia," drawing a parallel to Irene Adler and highlighting their shared complex past and mutual understanding.
