PC is Lead Platform for Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy
20 Feb
Summary
- PC is now the lead platform for Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy development.
- Assets are created at the highest quality for PC, then reduced for consoles.
- The third installment's development is progressing smoothly and on schedule.
PC gaming is becoming a primary focus for the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the PC is now the lead platform for development, a shift driven by the expanding international PC market. High-end PC environments serve as the foundation for creating 3D assets, which are then scaled down for console versions.
This strategy aims to leverage the power of PCs for visual fidelity. Hamaguchi noted that this approach was already apparent in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and will continue with the trilogy's third installment. Development for this concluding part is progressing very smoothly and remains on schedule.
However, it remains uncertain if this lead platform status will reduce release window delays for PC versions compared to consoles. Historically, PC releases have followed console launches by many months. Hamaguchi also detailed console differences, classifying PS5 and PS4 as mid-range platforms compared to high-end PCs, requiring significant graphical adjustments for performance.
