Filmmaker Shashi Ranjan Slams Film Bans

Filmmaker Shashi Ranjan recently praised the film 'Satluj', describing it as one of the finest he has encountered in years due to its exceptional storytelling and emotional resonance. He found the film's narrative and execution to be deeply surprising and moving.

Ranjan voiced strong disapproval of banning films, particularly those rooted in historical subjects. He argued that such actions are counterproductive, often heightening public curiosity rather than suppressing interest.

He also contended that historical cinema does not mislead contemporary youth, who are well-informed. Ranjan expressed hope that 'Satluj', which was removed from ZEE5 shortly after its release, would soon be available again.

The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer 'Satluj', previously titled 'Punjab '95', was taken down from ZEE5 less than two days after its launch. This action followed concerns raised by government authorities regarding the film's portrayal of police actions in Punjab during the 1990s. Reports indicate the film later surfaced online through unauthorized leaks.
