Summary
- Filmmaker Hauser wants Sam Rockwell to play Lorne Michaels in Chris Farley biopic
- Shooting for the biopic could begin in early to middle of next year
- Screenwriters deliver "best" script yet for the film

According to a recent report, filmmaker Hauser has his sights set on actor Sam Rockwell to play the role of "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels in an upcoming biopic about the late comedian Chris Farley. Hauser revealed his casting idea during an interview at the Los Angeles premiere of "Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere" on Wednesday night.
"I have some ideas for who to cast for Lorne," Hauser said. "I really want Sam Rockwell to play Lorne Michaels, which I don't think I've told anyone yet." Hauser then directly addressed Rockwell, saying, "Sam Rockwell, please play Lorne Michaels in my Chris Farley movie."
The Farley biopic, which was first announced in April 2024, is based on the New York Times best-selling biography "The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts." Hauser shared that he recently received the "latest draft" of the script from screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, which he described as "the best" yet. The filmmaker added that production could begin as soon as "early to middle of next year," pending the "elusive greenlight" from New Line and Warner Bros.
If Hauser's wish comes true, it would mark the second collaboration between Rockwell and the filmmaker, following their work together on Clint Eastwood's 2019 drama "Richard Jewell."
