Filmmaker Indira Dhar observed a particularly special Durga Puja this year, choosing to remain in Kolkata instead of traveling abroad for work as she usually does. This was her first Durga Puja following her marriage to filmmaker Sayan.
The celebrations included immersion in the traditions of the over 400-year-old Rajendra Mullick family puja in Barabazar, an event dating back to 1614. Dhar described the experience of being with her parents, in-laws, son Kabir, and extended family as a fantastic and overwhelming feeling.
The festive spirit extended to Lake Avenue, celebrating at the Durga Puja associated with Sayan's great-grandfather. Beyond personal festivities, the Puja also holds professional significance for Dhar, who has initiated her film projects with a script puja during this period for the past three years.
Currently engaged in an international film project after her Bollywood debut, Dhar highlighted the importance of her husband Sayan's understanding in balancing her demanding career with family life. She also noted the strong bond between Sayan and their son Kabir, which helps manage her frequent travel.
Dhar believes a supportive partner is crucial for a successful relationship, especially when both individuals have demanding careers. She attributes much of their togetherness to Maa Durga's blessings. This year's Puja was memorable not just for the rituals but for embracing family traditions and commencing another creative venture with Sayan.
