Film Independent has introduced the CineBridge Samuel and Ruth P. Cohen Fellowship, a new initiative for international filmmakers. This program is made possible by a significant $1.1 million donation from the Estate of Samuel and Ruth P. Cohen.
The fellowship, conceived by filmmaker Richard Tanne, is designed to support and promote global creative talents with distinct visions and the potential to resonate with diverse audiences.
Tomás Fleck and Fisnik Maxville are the inaugural CineBridge fellows. They were chosen from over 100 nominated submissions representing 40 countries. Fleck will develop "The Other America," and Maxville will develop "Reel Skin."
Both fellows will participate in virtual development sessions, followed by a one-month in-person residency in Los Angeles during September 2026. This residency includes industry meetings, masterclasses, and pitching opportunities at the Film Independent Forum.
Filmmaker Richard Tanne, an active mentor with Film Independent since 2018, will play a key role in selecting and supporting future fellows, aiming to bridge international talent into the Hollywood system for success.
Nominations for the CineBridge fellowship are accepted annually in the fall through a network of partners and Film Independent associates.
