Film Release Halted Amidst Major's Family Objections

The release of the upcoming film 'Dhurandhar,' set to premiere on December 5th, has been put on hold following a Delhi High Court directive. The court has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to thoroughly examine objections filed by the parents of Major Mohit Sharma. They contend that the film is based on their son's life and was produced without obtaining consent from the family or the Indian Army.

During the proceedings, the filmmakers and the CBFC's counsel presented counterarguments. The producer and the filmmakers' representatives stated that 'Dhurandhar' is a work of fiction and not a biopic directly based on Major Sharma's life. However, the court emphasized that the CBFC must consider all aspects of the petitioners' concerns before proceeding with the film's certification.

Furthermore, the court suggested that the CBFC should consult the Indian Army if deemed necessary for a comprehensive review. The directive underscores the importance of due diligence in certifying films that may potentially depict real-life individuals, especially military personnel, and aims to ensure that all relevant parties' concerns are addressed before the film reaches the public.
