Rafael Manuel's feature film debut, "Filipiñana," is set to be released theatrically by Kino Lorber later this year. The film centers on a 17-year-old girl from rural northern Philippines who works at an exclusive country club outside Manila. Her job involves lining up golf balls for wealthy patrons.
However, beneath the polished exterior of the elite resort, disturbing truths begin to surface. As the protagonist delves deeper into the club's most private areas, she uncovers violent realities connected to the club, her homeland, and her own past.
The film previously premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where it was honored with the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision. Kino Lorber, known for distributing bold international cinema, has secured the North American distribution rights.
"Filipiñana" is a co-production involving Film4, Potocol, Ossian International, Epicmedia, and others. It is produced by Jeremy Chua, Alex Polunin, Bianca Balbuena, Bradley Liew, and Rafael Manuel, with significant executive production support.
