The film centers on Sam Stein, an anxious law school dropout struggling with anxiety and a recent job loss in New York City. Shear, who also stars in the film, was inspired by his own experiences and favorite movies.
Sam secures a job babysitting his psychiatrist's three granddaughters. This unexpected role introduces him to the parents of the children, including Dianne, a former movie star whose acting career has plateaued, and her husband David. The film explores Sam's developing feelings for Dianne amidst his personal anxieties and career uncertainty.
'Fantasy Life' garnered significant attention at SXSW, winning the Narrative Feature Audience Award and a Special Jury Award for Amanda Peet's performance. Peet, returning to a leading role after nearly a decade, expressed her admiration for Shear's writing. Greenwich Entertainment is set to release the film in New York City on March 27, with a nationwide release on April 3.
