Fantaspoa, Brazil's premier genre film festival, is set to run from April 8 to April 26, 2026. This year's event will prominently feature a dual celebration: the 50th anniversary of Brian De Palma's iconic film "Carrie" and the centenary of F. W. Murnau's German Expressionist masterpiece, "Faust."
The festival's program boasts an extensive collection of over 200 films, with 85 features forming a significant part of the lineup. These selections represent a diverse global cinematic landscape, originating from 41 different countries and including numerous premieres across various categories, such as World, International, Latin American, Brazilian, and Regional premieres.
The overarching theme for Fantaspoa 2026 is the "symbolic and visual power" of "Carrie," a theme that is also reflected in the festival's official poster. The opening night will feature a special screening of "Faust" accompanied by a newly composed live score by Argentinian guitarist and composer Germán Suane, taking place at Instituto Ling in Porto Alegre.
Among the notable guests confirmed to attend the 2026 edition are Meekaaeel Adam, Sasha Lane, and Sean Gunn, adding to the festival's prestige. The full list of feature films scheduled for screening highlights the broad spectrum of genre cinema being presented.
