Evil Creators Considered Killing Leland Townsend
12 Sep
Summary
- Showrunners initially planned to kill Leland Townsend in Season 1.
- A doppelgänger from Des Moines was to replace the villain.
- The idea was reworked to reveal Leland's past as Jake Perry.

During the initial season of the supernatural series 'Evil,' creators Robert and Michelle King considered a radically different storyline for the antagonist, Leland Townsend. Their original plan involved killing Townsend at the end of Season 1.
This plot was intended to introduce a doppelgänger of Leland, an insurance adjuster from Des Moines, who would then assume the villain's identity. This concept explored themes of doubles and alternate selves early in the series' run.
However, the Kings ultimately revised this idea for the penultimate episode of the first season. Instead of a doppelgänger taking over, the storyline evolved into Kristen Bouchard exposing Leland's past life as Jake Perry, revealing his origins as a high school band member from Des Moines.
