Criterion Channel Streams Classic Evangelion With Rare English Dub
1 Aug
Summary
- Criterion Channel streams Evangelion series and films starting Sept. 1.
- Features the original ADV Films English dub, unavailable for decades.
- New Evangelion series and Yoko Taro project are also in development.
Beginning September 1, the Criterion Channel will feature the 26-episode Neon Genesis Evangelion television series along with its companion films, Evangelion: Death (True)² and The End of Evangelion. This release is notable for including the original English dub produced by ADV Films for the series' VHS release in the 1990s. This specific dub went out of print after ADV Films closed in 2009 and has not been available on any streaming service until now.
The iconic series, which originally aired between 1995 and 1996, centers on teenagers who pilot giant biomechanical beings known as Evangelions to combat extraterrestrial threats called Angels. The franchise is experiencing a resurgence, with a new Evangelion TV series announced in February and another series from NieR creator Yoko Taro currently in production.
