Erin Moran, an American actress, began her career at a young age, appearing in numerous TV shows before the age of 14. Born in 1960, she found widespread recognition playing Joanie Cunningham in the hit 1970s sitcom "Happy Days." The show's popularity, partly fueled by 1950s nostalgia, propelled Moran to stardom.
Her character Joanie became a fan favorite, especially her on-screen romance with Chachi Arcola. This led to a spin-off series, "Joanie Loves Chachi," in 1982, though it was short-lived. After "Happy Days" concluded, Moran made guest appearances in other shows but faced personal struggles, including addiction and depression.
In 2012, Moran and several "Happy Days" castmates filed a $10 million lawsuit against CBS over unpaid merchandise earnings. They reached an out-of-court settlement, with each receiving $65,000. Around the same time, she moved to Indiana to care for her mother-in-law.
Moran passed away on April 22, 2017, at the age of 56. The official cause of death was attributed to complications from stage four squamous cell carcinoma of the throat, with no illegal narcotics involved. Her husband revealed her health declined rapidly after her cancer diagnosis.
