Born in San Francisco on November 9, 1972, Dane began his acting career with early roles in "Saved By The Bell" and "Charmed." He achieved widespread recognition as Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed "McSteamy," in "Grey's Anatomy," a role he played until the ninth season.
More recently, Dane connected with a new generation of viewers as Cal Jacobs in the acclaimed teen drama "Euphoria." His film credits also include "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Valentine's Day."
Dane was married to actress Rebecca Gayheart, with whom he shared two daughters, Billie and Georgia. Despite their divorce proceedings, they remained close, with Gayheart describing them as "best of friends" and great co-parents, particularly in light of his ALS diagnosis.
