Emmys Cut 5 Awards for Shorter Show
17 Jul
Summary
- Five Emmy award categories were removed from the main ceremony.
- These categories will be presented during the Creative Arts Emmys in September.
- The main Emmy telecast will feature fewer categories for increased entertainment.

This fall, the main Emmy Awards ceremony will feature five fewer awards as the Television Academy's Board of Governors has voted to adjust the categories presented. The five categories being moved are for supporting actor and actress in a limited series or movie, writing for a limited series or movie, directing for a limited series or movie, and writing for a variety series.
These awards will still be presented by the Television Academy but will take place during the earlier Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies scheduled for September 5 and 6. The primary Emmy telecast, airing on Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET, will now encompass 19 categories. This streamlined approach is intended to allow for increased musical performances, comedy segments, and extended acceptance speeches.
