Lorna Ó Ríordáin, a costume designer from Northern Ireland, has been nominated for a Creative Arts Emmy Award. Her nomination recognizes her outstanding work on HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a prequel to the popular series Game of Thrones. The series, which tells the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, is filmed in Belfast.
Ó Ríordáin expressed her excitement, calling the nomination "as good as a win." She described the project as a significant challenge, involving "a lot of new things in the mix," particularly working with armor on a much larger scale than her previous period drama work. The design process, she explained, begins with the script and collaboration with the showrunner and production design team to create a unique world.
Detailing her approach, Ó Ríordáin highlighted how she considered character origins and intended to convey power, drawing inspiration from "dragons, volcanic places" for fabric choices and medieval Persian and Japanese emperors for regal shapes. Makeup artist Anna Knight and hairstylist Cat Coogan also received Emmy nominations for their contributions to "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." The Creative Arts Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place on September 5 and 6, 2026.
