Abandoned Baby to World Stage: Emmanuel Kelly's Journey

Emmanuel Kelly's extraordinary life story began when he was found abandoned in a box as an infant and subsequently raised in Mother Teresa's orphanage in Baghdad. In 1998, Australian humanitarian Moira Kelly discovered him and his friend Ahmed, who also had underdeveloped limbs. Two years later, in 2000, Kelly and Ahmed arrived in Australia for vital medical treatment and multiple surgeries to fit prosthetic limbs. They were adopted by Moira the same year and became Australian citizens in 2009.

Kelly pursued a career in entertainment, gaining significant attention in 2011 on Australia's The X Factor for his rendition of 'Imagine.' This performance launched his musical journey. Meanwhile, his brother Ahmed achieved success as a competitive swimmer, earning a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

In 2016, Coldplay's Chris Martin, impressed by Kelly's performance, invited him to sing on stage. This led to a friendship and, in 2024, Kelly headlined Coldplay's Australian tour. Recently, Martin invited Kelly to perform at the FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show in New Jersey, marking him as the first differently-abled artist to headline such an event. He is set to perform again at the World Cup final halftime show.
